overheating of the engine.
Most likely you have a blown head gasket.
Usually white smoke means that water is getting into the combustion chamber, indicating that you have a leaking head gasket. This is serious and should be checked by a trained mechanic.

Yes, you can, but I am unsure if it has been done. People have swapped the V12 engine to 89-95 5-series. You will need the computer, harness, and probably the transmission as well. If you need more info, you can check out www.bimmerforums.com. Fed
Be sure not to use the 5W-30 as it is likely to be burned, though you may find many suggesting you to use synthetic. I would recommend regular oil which you should be changing every 4000 miles.
The E32 was introduced in 1987, with the 730i and 735i featuring 3.0 L and 3.5 L straight-6 engines respectively, and a new, 5.0 L, 300 horsepower V12 engine for the 750i. In 1992, 3.0 L and 4.0 L V8 engines were added to the lineup (730i and 740i). All models were also available in a stretched 'L' version, which had 10 cm of extra legroom for the rear passengers.
White smoke especially when starting tends to indicate that water is finding its way into the the exhaust system, where it is boiling and exiting the exhaust as steam. The possible cause could be water getting into the cylinders (perhaps from a damaged gasket).
white smoke is water, black smoke is oil. remember that!
