Best Answer

Oxygen is used for aerobic respiration (its aerobic because it uses oxygen, aerobic is respiration without oxygen. ) Aerobic respiration is the chemical reaction used to get energy from glucose (in our food). The chemical equation for aerobic respiration is glucose + oxygen -> carbon dioxide + water (+ energy). Energy is in brackets because it is not an actual substance. We use energy to move and to do everything we need to do to keep alive, so do other animals. Therefore animals need oxygen to stay alive.
