Rail line that links European Russia with the Pacific coast. Built 1891--1904, it extends from Moscow through Vladivostok to the Sea of Japan, a distance of 5,786 mi./9,311 km. An extension stretches 1,952 mi./3,102 km. from Ust-Kut to the Pacific.

So basically, it's a wonder because it is very long and was constructed in very inhospitable territory with very long lines of supply. This could only have been done by a government which was sufficiently determined and resourced to complete it.
