If its automatic check the flywheel (flex plate) its probably cracked.
if it sounds like the knocking is coming from the bottom of the engine i would bet it was the rods or rod bearings may be worn. if the knocking is on the top ,then i would have the lifters and or the rocker arms checked.
Internal knocking inside the engine is almost always a sign of worn bearings. Crankshsft, or rod bearing would be my guess. The fix, if it is internal, is overhaul. Before opening it up, make sure the knocking is indeed coming from inside the engine.
it all depends on the loudness and where the sound is coming from, it can range from a loose bolt to bad connecting rod bearings
On older cars and all trucks use a coupler called an u-joint to join the trans, driveshaft and rearend together to power the car or truck. This coupler has tiny little bearings in it. When the bearings run out of grease or badly worn this will cause slop within the coupler. bottom line is it sounds like you need a new u-joint.
Wear and tear in the crankcase and/or power train. Your car is talking to you about budgeting for an expensive repair coming up.
could be one of a number of things. is the sound coming from top or bottom of the engine? if its top end it could be worn camshaft/followers. from lower down and it could be little ends (gudgeon pins) or big ends,(main bearings) which is pretty serious
My 99 sonoma had a knock and it was a wrist pin in the engine, my 99 jimmy fuel injection leaked gas in the engine oil and caused the main bearings to fail because of lack of proper lubrication.
I get knocking & ping noise coming from the fuel injectors
Does the knock sound like it is coming from the bottom of the engine or is it more of a tick from the top? How quick do you lose oil?
Sorry bud but that means that you have what's called a " Rod knock", one or more of the main and or the rod bearings have gone away, need to break that engine down to fix it. jr
Lucas (oil additive) it and pray..if its a rod just drive it easy..if it is spark knock use better gas. answer the door sorry bout that, but if engine is knocking is it at idle, under load, etc knocking can be caused by piston slap,(worn out rings),bad bearings,or simply have engine tuned, all depends where knock is coming from
My 2000 Grand Prix would have a low-speed knocking noise coming from the drivers side as the CV axle was failing. The loss of lubrication in the CV Boots allows the joint to make a knocking/tapping sound at a low speed. If the knocking is coming from the engine compartment, then it could be an entirely different problem.
