Stalin wanted to dominate Europe after World War II to have a secure border for Russia. Another factor that came into play was the fact that Stalin felt that communism was the perfect form of government, and wanted to control the rest of the world through communism.
Stalin's goals in eastern Europe were territorial control and a reconstruction of the nation. He wanted to keep the majority of the power and did so try by utilizing fear as his major device on the people.

Hitler wanted to dominate so "much" as you say because he wanted to rid the world of the un pure races, and wanted the world to be run by the pure Aryan race.

Napoleon dominated most of Europe except Britain because he wanted to share his power with the whole world. He thought he had more power than anyone so he thought that he could dominate the whole of Europe. Nelson, the British commander at the time, was the only man who beat the fierce Napoleon.
After WW2 he wanted to install pro-communist, pro-USSR governments. His theory was that because Russia / USSR had been invaded twice in 25 years from europe and Stalin feared another war starting in that way again, so he did everything he colt to keep those pro governments in place.
