Check the safety switch. If the fuse for the Brake lights is blown it will also affect the safety switch; if the problem is intermittent then there is a possible short in the system or a faulty switch that needs replacement.
Try checking the transmission fluid.
i read in another answer that there is a transmission hold to keep it in gear longer.. you may have that pressed and the car wants to gear down but can't. i have no idea but its a suggestion.. mike
Assuming the Dodge has an automatic transmission, the transmission may be low on ATF or the transmission is on its way out. I think the contributor is referring to a Fairground 'Dodgem' car, ie an electric car on a rink. - Many will not move till pedal is pressed flat to prevent small children from driving on their own -
A non-automatic gun only fires once each time the trigger is pressed.
automatic transaxle is probably low on fluid or too full. otherwise have a trans shop check er out
Check the fluid level. If it is ok, then a transmission shop is the next thing. Ask around to find a good trustworthy shop. Talk to your friends about where to take your car for repairs.
The shifter. D is for drive which is forward and R is for reverse. N is for neutral. You have to have the breaks pressed down all the way in order to move out of park and into D or R.
Your transmission does not know how far you have the accelerator pressed. Some cars have a cable that runs between the throttle and transmission to 'tell' the transmission how far you have the gas pedal pressed. Some cars use electronic sensors to 'tell' the transmission how far you have the pedal pushed. It sounds like your transmission 'thinks' your gas pedal is not pressed at all. This will cause the shift points to occur exactly as you describe them. Look for an unhooked cable between the transmission and throttle.
When it has been pressed and the light is on, the transmission is limited to 3rd gear.
i have never in my life at least have never seen tie rods pressed in, they have a but on the end which you take off and then sometimes if your lucky you just hit it and it drops down, other times you have to hit it hard with a hammer a sledge hammer at that and then it will if it wants to drop off but ive never seen them pressed in.
It is not a "warning" light but an indicator that you have pressed the button near the shifter to put the tranny into tow mode.
Motor oil is added at an oil fill cap on the valve cover of most cars. Usually well marked " OIL " and about a 2" diameter threaded or pressed in cap. Transmission oil , in automatic transmissions is usually added thru the ATF dipstick tube.
