Because they're both falling through air, and the leaf has to slip and slide through
the air.

If you drop a leaf and an apple in a tube with no air inside ... and also add a Bowling ball,
a parachute, a rock, and a feather if you want to ... they all fall at the same rate, and
hit the bottom at the same time.
