My car's doing the same thing. I ran accross something that said it is due to the sensor located in the front bumper, retails for about $30. I've seen the sensor while under the car and looks to be easy to get to. I never got around to changing it, so I'm not sure if this would actually fix the problem. Hope this helps. If the heater is not working in your Eddie Bauer edition Ford Expedition, your heater core is probably junk and needs to be replaced.
The heater on a Mercedes c200 will stop working if the heater core is blocked. It allows hot coolant from the engine to be used in heating the cabin.
If you have lost a sufficient amount of coolant this will stop the heater working because there will be no hot water in the heater rad.
By reading the directions that come with each heater as each one is slightly different
