To block annoying, advertising pop-ups appearing in your browser.
Your computer would usaly get random pop-ups advertising to downloading stuff. It may also change your internet HomePage to something different. If that happens get a virus scan or download a trustworthy anti-virus.
One can find targeted email advertising by going to the Silver Pop website. The website provides targeted email advertising to the members of the website.
One of the symptoms of this virus is the enormous amount of pop up windows advertising the need to fix a computer. Another is changing the screen save to the blue screen of death.
There are many ways a computer can get pop up ads. The best way to stop them is with a simple pop up blocker which Internet explore, fire fox and most the rest have installed. If you have this pop up blocker turned on and you are still getting pop ups you may have unknowingly let a Trojan virus in to your system. This means you may have a hacker observing what you are doing on your computer and sending pop ups to you related to your interests. And when you click on these pop ups the hacker makes money from the advertiser. This is their incentive to invade your computer. If by 'pop up' you mean additional, unsolicited browser windows, then no. Gmail inboxes feature targeted advertising links, but not traditional pop ups.

a pop up is something that will pop up when you are on your computer or if you read a childrens book a picture will pop up and the purpose of that is to scare you another one is a virus it will bug you and then your computer will die
Not all browsers allow to do that. The only browser I've seen can block all pop-ups is Opera. It's possible that Mozilla has a plugin to accomplish that, but you will have to look for it.

There is contextual advertising where an ad usually has a title text with a small description of a product that when clicked leads to an advertiser's website. Text advertising works a lot like contextual advertising except there is no description text, just a two to four word link pointing to the advertiser's site. Banner advertising usually consists of an image advertisement in flash, .gif, .jpg, etc. Insertial advertising is a graphic or media rich advertisement that is displayed in between two pages during navigation of a website. These ads can stay for up minute before forwarding to the intended page. Fly-In advertising works similar to a pop-up advertisement except it does not open new browser applications or windows. Instead it comes in from the actual page visited and has the option to be closed. Pop-Up or Pop-Under advertisingopens a new browser window with a graphic advertisement either in front of a page (pop-up) or behind a page (pop-under). At times the new browser can also open a whole new website. All of these types of advertisements can be ran on CPM or CPC models.
