AM travels well over longer distances than FM is capable of, but has a lower fidelity and is more susceptible to metal, which is why it is not used as often in cities.
I could certainly be wrong, but my recollection is that a phase locked loopis a universal detector for Frequency and Phase modulation, and is quiteinsensitive to Amplitude modulation.
Generally pulse amplitude modulation (PAM) is trasmitted as a series of DC levels and are mostly used in wired trasmissions (DC is not effective wirelessly).
IF we use frequency modulation for transmitting video signal this can cause phase shifting .and eyes can percieve this distortion effect easly . and requires more bandwidth to send the signal .Color levels are adjusted by amplitude in TV .So it s more logic to use Amplitude modulation .
