British Sovereigns are not called "Defenders of the Faith". There is an inscription on most British and Commonwealth coins that varies with the Monarch that, at its most impressive, stated - For a Queen - "VICTORIA DEI GRA BRITT REGINA FID DEF IND IMP" which is mostly abbreviated from Latin. The literal definition is - "Victoria by the Grace of God, Queen of the British territories, Defender of the Faith, Empress of India". Or for a King - "EDWARDVS VII DEI GRA BRITT OMN REX FID DEF IND IMP". The literal definition is - "Edward VII by the Grace of God, King of all the British territories, Defender of the Faith, Emperor of India". The "Defender of the Faith" part refers to the Monarch and was originally a title given to Henry VIII by the Pope for his services to the Church.
