Canada, the US, and Mexico are under a free trade agreement known as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). Its been in effect since December 1995 and makes trading much simpler and easier between the three major countries.

The United States and Canada make excellent trading partners for several reasons.

A. Each nation has had a long term friendly relationship;

B. Over time, Canada & the USA share many common beliefs;

C. The long border of the two nations allows for goods to be traded over several areas;

D. The Great Lakes is shared to a large extent by both nations and allows for trade easily between them;

E. Canada offers to the US a good source of energy supplies and in turn a good amount of US manufactured goods made in the US fills a certain demand in Canada; and

F. Each nation speaks English so communications are clear.
