Why are Hawaii and Alaska the odd ones out of the States of America?

Neither state touches the mainland of the US. Both are exquisite in their natural beauty, although vastly different from each other! Speaking of Hawaii's natural beauty, I was just looking at a picture of a stunning plantation estate near Pakalas Beach in Kauai. Talk about gorgeous natural surroundings! You should see the lava rock wall and the beautiful shady orchard! I am imagining myself watching the sunset over the ocean... If you want to see what I mean by stunning, they have a FaceBook page.
