Relative to zoology (the study of animal Biology), the term viviparous means that this type of animal bears live young, as opposed to laying eggs, like birds or reptiles. A female bat develops her offspring's embryo within her body by providing nourishment directly from her body. Most mammals (such as bats) are viviparous.
