Why are chiropractors not treated with the respect that other doctors receive?

Chiropractors are not treated with the same level respect as doctors because, unlike doctors, chiropractors do not have medical degrees, and their practices are based on tradition, and not empirical medicine. Essentially, they are not respected like other doctors because they are not actually doctors.

Because of misconceptions and misinformation like the answer above. DCs, or Docto of Chiropractic have a different philosophy of healthcare. They choose to practice conservative care through physical manipulation and physical types of therapy. They refer out to MDs or DOs when less conservative plans are warranted.
DCs receive four years of undergraduate pre-med education before transferring to a health sciences university to complete another 4 years. The length of their education is the same as a general practice MD. (Specialist of either route extend their education).
To the point, chiropractors are 'real' doctors and deserve respect for the pursuit of education to start. After that, like any profession, it should vary doctor to doctor based on effectiveness and professional behavior.

People USED TO really respect their doctors since they treated them, but with new inventions and procedures there isn't as much of a need to see doctors anymore, therefor their respect level decreased. It's sad really because they deserve all the respect in the world for what they do.
