Nobody knows. All foods are good to some people, and crumpets are very popular as they are sweet, sticky and fluffy. Some people find them irrisitable. Although you may find Oranges disgusting, the next person might love them. It is really a case of personal opinion. However, some people say it's about the golden crispness, the beauty of the melted butter dripping down your chin and that awesome feeling as you tear the crumpet apart to discover what it's made of.

The crumpet is, in fact, not that sweet. There isn't that much sugar in the traditional recipes. It is served traditionally with butter, which has a sweetness to it. Sweetness comes from other toppings. It is very popular with jams and jellies, as well as marmalade and all types of syrup. Cheese is also used to top this breakfast or anytime snack.

The English muffin is similar, and the Scots crumpet is a variation on the theme. These, too, only have a nominal amount of sugar in them. Why are they good? They are a flexible and easy-to-fix food item that, when served with an appropriate topping, can perk up anyone who is attending a tea or is just a bit peckish. It is easy to take one out the door in the morning, too, providing you have a free hand.
