Why are environmentalist so annoying?

Several potential reasons spring to mind. Some fall on them, some on you.:

• People with a mission (environmental activists, evangelists, Amway salesment, etc.) can tend to always be on topic for their pet interest. Like the saying "To a man with just a hammer, everything is a nail." Others without this burning desire to know about the topic just aren't interested.
• Some people just don't want to reminded that things are going downhill and something should be done. This is the same reaction that older guys exhibit when relatives, doctors and TV commercials remind them that a colonoscopy is a good idea after fifty. They know, but they don't want to be told, and they definitely don't want to participate in the test. After all if they don't check it out everything will be just fine (until it's not)
• Some environmentalists know their stuff, People who get all their facts from FOXX news and radio talk show hosts don't like having their beliefs shredded by the truth and the science
• Some people are interested in nonthinking items - any mention of science, technology, math and so on turns them off.
• Some people feel left out when the topic turns to the environment. They haven't kept up and it all sounds so dire.
• Some people, no mater what they want to talk about, are just plain annoying.

A major problem with negative experiences is that people remember the ones that Provo their point. In this case meeting 100 environmentalists, some wonderful people, some pleasant, some annoying and some that you just couldn't stand will generally result in you only remembering the ones you disliked. As consequence in relating the experience you would refer to the entire group as "annoying"
