What do greenhouse gases in earth's atmosphere do?

Greeenhouse gases are but a little bit bad it's good if we didn't have green house gases the earth will be frozen

What is the greenhouse effect and what gases are responsible for it?

The greenhouse effect keeps the earth warm enough for life. This is a good thing. The gases responsible are mostly water vapour and carbon dioxide. The enhanced greenhouse effect is causing global warming and climate change. This is a very dangerous thing. The gases responsible are mostly carbon dioxide (from our burning of fossil fuels which release long-hidden carbon) and methane (from cattle, agricultural practices, rice paddies and melting tundra).

How does greenhouse effect maintain the biospheres temperature range?

Greenhouse Gases are essentially very good at absorbing Infrared Radiation. So when IR from the sun hits the Earth's surface and is reflected, it would normally be reflected back into space, the greenhouse gases however are in the way, and absorb the heat.A:The sun's heat gets trapped in the earth's atmosphere. A:The popular view is that the atmosphere has some sort of layer of carbon dioxide "up there" that reflects heat back down to Earth rather than letting it escape to space. That would be like the glass on a greenhouse trapping warm air in while letting the sunlight through to increase the heat. In a greenhouse the sunlight warms the benches and floor, he warm objects heat the air, the air is trapped by the double layer of insulating glass. It does not happen that way.Sunlight comes in and warms the Earth's surface. It warms the gases in the air too, at least some of them with a bond size that gets excited by sunlight. These special gases are greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, methane, water vapour and a few others). They are mixed evenly through all of the atmosphere (not in a layer). When the gases are warm they share their heat with all their gas molecule neighbours and heat the atmosphere generally. The effect is more like wet sand in a microwave. Microwaves do not heat sand. They do heat water. When you microwave wet sand, the water heats up - might even turn to steam. The hot water warms the sand.A:Greenhouse Gases are essentially very good at absorbing Infrared Radiation. How much global warming comes from litter?

Global warming is caused by the increases in greenhouse gases caused by man. The littering of items that will decay and cause greenhouse gases to be emitted when they could be recycled certainly could be considered to be adding to the issue. In any event. littering is hardly a good idea.

What is the greenhouse effect and how can you prevent it?

The Greenhouse Effect:Greenhouse gases, such as water vapor, carbon dioxide, methane etc., move in and out of the atmosphere. They trap some of the heat radiated out from the Earth that would normally move out into space. This is called the greenhouse effect. It is natural, and is caused by the earth's carbon and water cycles and the heat from the sun. Without this warming we would be a cold dead planet. The Enhanced Greenhouse Effect:Since the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, 260 hundred years ago, we have been burning fossil fuels, initially coal, then oil and natural gas in much greater quantities than before. Fossil fuels contain carbon that has been hidden away for millions of years. Burning fossil fuels is adding extra Carbon Dioxide to the greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, much more than the normal carbon cycle can manage, and is making the atmosphere and the planet warmer. Increased demand for food and red meat has led to massive deforestation for grazing land. Trees no longer act as a valuable soak or sink for carbon dioxide. More cattle mean more methane expelled into the atmosphere. Methane is a much more dangerous greenhouse gas than CO2. This process is called the enhanced, or accelerated greenhouse effect. When the sun's rays enter earth's atmosphere, but don't exit. Too much of this causes Global Warming.A: One of the main causes of Global Warming is the Green house effect. When the emission of infra-red radiation in the atmosphere warms a planet's surface, it is known as the Green House Effect. The Greenhouse effect is a natural phenomena occurring on planet EarthOne of the man-made causes of the Green House effect is deforestation. Deforestation increases the amount of carbon-dioxide in the atmosphere. Also, due to the disappearance of trees, photosynthesis cannot take place. Deforestation causes of the greenhouse effect. Deforestation is rampant today due to the increase in human civilization. The levels of deforestation have increased by about nine percent in recent times. Also, the burning of wood causes it to decay, therefore releasing more carbon-dioxide into the atmosphere.Greenhouse Gases also can be released into the atmosphere due to the burning of fossil fuels, oil, coal and gas. These materials are used increasingly and rampantly in Industries. Therefore Industries are also a major cause of the Greenhouse Effect.Carbon Dioxide and other pollutant gases in the atmosphere prevent trapped heat from escaping into space.

How greenhouse gases can be both good for life on earth as well as harmful?

Greenhouse gases aren't a bad thing without them it would be too cold on Earth for most living things to survive

What is a good sentence with the word greenhouse effect in it?

The greenhouse effect is when gases get trapped inside the earths atmosphere and cannot get out so the sun heats them up and the earth gets warmer. just like a greenhouse

What is the beneficial effect of the greenhouse gas?

If it weren't for the Greenhouse Effect, the Earth would be very cold. But it is only good to a certain point. We humans are throwing high levels of greenhouse gases into the air that is causing what we have labeled Global Warming.

What are greenhouse gases and how are they good?

CFCs, CO, etc

What is the natural greenhouse effect in the earth's atmosphere and how humans might be contributing to its effect?

Natural greenhouse effect is good because it keeps the Earth warm and habitable using natural greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Although when there is a "build-up" of these gases, the sun's energy (from sunlight) is trapped between the atmosphere and Earth's surface allowing energy to enter but making it extremely difficult to get out. Thus resulting in a warmer than normal Earth.

Are greenhouse gases a good thing?

The natural greenhouse effect means that the earth is warm enough for life because of the greenhouse gases. This is a good thing. But too much greenhouse gas, which is happening now because we are still burning fossil fuels and have cut down too many forests, is causing Global Warming and climate change.A:Yes and no. Enough greenhouse gases would make Earth warm and comfortable for us to live. Too much would cause much of what we love to slowly melt, like homes bordering the beaches, because glaciers and ice caps are melting and increasing sea levels.

What do you call gases that are good absorbers of outgoing radiation?

Greenhouse gases, carbon dioxide, water vapour, methane, etc.

Is the greenhouse effect harmless?

There is a natural greenhouse effect that has kept the earth warm enough for life for many millions of years. There is now an enhanced (or accelerated) greenhouse effect which is causing global warming. The consequences of the enhanced greenhouse effect are certainly not harmless. Climate scientists predict many dangers in the future, including famines, heat waves, species extinction and sea level rising to dangerous levels.

Are greehouse gasses good or bad?

Yes and no. We need greenhouse gases in our atmosphere to keep the earth warm enough for human life. So the right level of greenhouse gas is good. Too much greenhouse gases are bad for us. Carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and fluoridated gases are the gases which trap sunlight and heat from the surface of the earth and so they are used by the greenhouse effect to heat the atmosphere. This leads to overheating in the atmosphere which in turn leads to global warming.

If air is a bad conducter of heat then why do global warming occurs?

because water vapor, carbon dioxide, & other greenhouse gases are good insulators of heat that radiates off the earth.
