First I want to say that I love cars. I love to drive them, hot rod them, race them etc. However the internal combustion engine is a Gross Polluter. Even the best ones only manage to burn a small percentage of their fuel and what is left pollutes the environment by dirtying the air we breath. And when the particulates settle back to earth, it pollutes the water we drink. The next problem with the internal combustion engine is the fluids that keep the machine lubricated and cooled are themselves toxic and after the engine is through with them they become even more poisonous. And disposal of these toxic fluids becomes a problem.

Are rc airplane engines bad on the environment?

All engines are bad on the environment, they exude used chemicals once fuel is burned. But with technology progressing as it is there is less impact on the environment today than there was 20 years ago.

Will a bad catalytic converter cause water to run out of the tailpipe?

No. Water is a normal byproduct of the combustion process. It can also be an indication of an internal engine issue such as a failed headgasket.No. Water is a normal byproduct of the combustion process. It can also be an indication of an internal engine issue such as a failed headgasket.

Is fuel in engine oil bad?

For engines, it's great. For people, it's toxic. For the environment, it's horrible.

How cars are bad for the environment?

Generally speaking, modern diesel engines are far much better for the environment than standard gasoline engines. The process by which diesel fuel is burned leaves much less harmful emissions into the atmosphere.

What causes engines to run hot?

Low coolant level from internal or external leak), bad sensor?, stuck t-stat.

Are electric cars bad for the environment?

Anything which consumes energy has an effect on the environment. An automobile which only transports one person is inefficient, unless it is very small. It does not matter where the energy comes from, it is the consumption of energy to move one person from place to place which is bad for the environment. Electric cars normally get their energy from the electrical grid, which is primarily supplied by coal-burning generating plants. Building more coal fired plants to meet the demand for electricity would be bad for the environment. However, they are better for the environment than internal combustion engine cars burning gasoline, as some electricity is renewably generated (wind, solar, hydro, etc).

Why is low compression bad?

Compression that is lower than specified is bad because it indicates a damaged or badly worn internal component. So if its leaking it will also loose power. The seal in the combustion chamber is critical for life of the other internal components and the fuel economy, power and even if the dang thing will start.

Why are few cars good for the environment?

There are no good or bad cars. Internal combustion engines that use hydrocarbon fuels produce typically carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and water as byproducts along with some minor sulfur and phosphorous and nitrogen oxides. All of these products occur naturally in the atmosphere. Soils need the nitrogen compounds and plants need the carbon dioxide to grow. Phosphorous compounds are frequently fertilizer for marine plants, and carbon monoxide is a very unstable compound and will oxidixe to carbon dioxide given some time and exposure to sunlight.
