Why are kangaroos so cute?

All Austalian natve mammals are protected by legislation. Some species of kangaroos, particularly rock wallabies, are endangered, and protection provides some means to prevent their numbers becoming too much more depleted. However, even prolific species such as the Red kangaroo and both species of Grey kangaroos are protected by law, simply because they are native Australian animals. Note that, even though kangaroos may be harvested and legally culled by licenced hunters under contolled conditions, they are still legally protected.

Kangaroos are the most famous Australian animals because they are native to Australia, and they belong to the most recognizable icons in the world. (They are second only to the Statue of Liberty!) If you think Australian Outback you automatically think kangaroos, don't you? If you imagined that kangaroos are hopping all over Australia then you are right. "Roos", as we call them for short, can indeed be found in all parts of Australia, not just in the Outback. There are many different species of kangaroos (well over 60 all up), adapted to all kinds of Australian habitats. Think of them as Australian's version of deer, but a million times cheekier, with a huge leap and a fuzzy pouch to boot.
