allies are important for mainly two feasons (1) to pretty much know you wont have war with them (2) if you need help fighting a war with money ishues or not enough men any kind of war ishue usualy alies can help.

the war started as just Austria against Serbia but because there were so many alliances between the two countries before you knew it the whole of Europe was involved.

take for example a fight between you and a person in your class, it is hardly ever just a fight between you and that person. both people have friends (unless one is a loner) their friends will then start sticking up for them and defending them and before you know it the whole class is involved
