Why are people that are Jehovah's Witnesses not allowed to talk to their family that aren't Jehovah's Witnesses?

You'll notice this when they come to your door, if you are well informed about their religion, their history, and/or The Bible, and you demonstrate this they will immediately be trying to find an excuse to leave. Refusing to engage someone in conversation about such things is the JW safe guard against doubts taking root about what they believe.
Jehovah's Witnesses are even highly discouraged from greeting those that that could be damaging to their faith, as it could open up the potential for such conversations to take place.
A Jehovah's Witness answer:Jehovah's Witnesses are encouraged to speak about the good news of God's Kingdom as found in the Bible to their non-Witness family members. In accordance with the Bible's instructions at 1 Corinthians 5:9-13 and 2 John 10, 11, Jehovah's Witnesses do not socialize or discuss their beliefs with former members who refuse to live by Bible standards or who actively spread untruth about their organization or actively try to persuade other members to abandon the organization (apostates). Not all ex-Jehovah's Witnesses fall into this category, as some may have become inactive without having committed a serious sin.Biblical truth can and does regularly hold up to scrutiny, as we encounter all sorts of contrary viewpoints in our door-to-door ministry. We are more than happy to engage such people in conversation if they desire answers to our questions. However, we do not come to people's doors to win fights or arguments, so if a person is more interested in arguing or ridiculing us than in actually listening to the answer to their question, we are encouraged to politely put an end to the conversation.

Well, Jehovah's witnesses try and follow the early Christians (Jesus, and his followers) as close as possible. Jesus has friends and even God (Jehovah) had made friends with people on earth, God made friends with Abraham. There are MANY examples in the bible of people having friends.... Why would Jehovah's witnesses not have friends? Jehovah's witnesses enjoy getting together with friends, and going out together, they consider their friends, as if they were family. OF COURSE they do! There is NO where in the bible that say's 'Thou shalt not have friends'.

People hate the Jehovah's Witnesses because they were "destined" to, should we say. In the Bible it says that the people of the true religion would be hated and discriminated against. It's fulfilling Bible prophecy. And by the way, the New World Translation of the Bible is not altered to fit Jehovah's Witnesses' beliefs. There are many credible resources that aren't even part of their religion that studied the translation and agree that it is the most UN-ALTERED form of the original manuscripts. Jehovah's Witnesses work to earn their living as anyone else would do. We have secular jobs just as most people do. We believe in honest work and providing for our selves and our family's. We would not however work jobs that would conflict with our Bible teaching. Such jobs may include strippers, military workers, gun manufacturer, casino dealers. The type of job would depend on a Witnesses discernment, prayer, and careful consideration of Bible principles.

Yes, they fellowship outside the Kingdom Hall often in social gatherings. However, they do prefer to associate mainly with other witnesses unless it is a situation where teaching a non-witness is involved. There is no hard rule set on how often, or in what circumstances you can associate with non-witnesses. But it is highly discouraged to have purely social interactions with non-witnesses because of the possible detrimental affects that association with people that do not share their beliefs could have on their morality standards and faith.

Yes, to a certain level either because of work or school etc. They do try to level there association to avoid being influenced by the outside "world" which they think is bad for their spirituality. They do make friends but are carefull to befriend people with good traits. Yes they are allowed to be friends with people who are non-Jehovah's Witnesses. They are careful with getting involved in negative activities with the outside world. My mom's side of the family are Jehovah's Witnesses and not in a negative way but my aunt keeps seeing demons.
