How are amphibians different than reptiels?

Amphibians are superficially similar to reptiles, but reptiles are amniotes, that is they lay eggs that are adapted to dry land. Most amphibians lay eggs in water and have a juvenile stage that changes into the adult form.

Why are reptiles more suited for the desert than amphibians?

Amphibians require water to reproduce as their eggs do not have a water proof shell. that requires that the developing young be in water. Also, amphibians go through a process of metamorphosis Reptiles, most of them, lay eggs that are more waterproof and do not dry out. The young of reptiles are born as miniatures of the adults and do not require water sources to mature.

Are amphibians and reptiles both slimy?

Are a reptile and an amphibian the same thing?

No. Reptiles and amphibians are two different classes. Amphibians have thin, water permeable skin and most need to keep their skin moist. Reptiles have dry scaly skin and are able to survive out of water indefinitely.

Amphibians are most dependent on an aquatic environment for?

Amphibians do not have the waterproof skin that amniotes (reptiles, birds, and mammals) do. If they are not wet, they can dry out and die, especially because many types of amphibians breath partly or entirely through their skin. Amphibians also need an aquatic environment in order to breed, because their eggs and young must be in water, or they will dry up and die.

Are aligators amphibions?

Well, gators and crocs are actually what's called a reptile. Other reptiles would include snakes, lizards, etc. Amphibians (frogs, toads, etc) are dependent upon water and can convert the oxygen within the water in order to breath while swimming. Meanwhile, a reptile can live in and out of water, but can only hold their breath underwater for a couple hours - kind of like sea turtles. Another interesting thing is that most reptiles lay their eggs outside of the water, while amphibians lay their eggs in the water.
