A lot of people find reassurance in continuity and survival.

It tends to be other countries that admire our Royal Family, and monarchy in general, more than we do. Spain brought back the monarchy. The Austrians have talked about bringing back the Habsburgs. The Russians gave a huge welcome to Prince Michael of Kent when he visited - having a resemblance to his cousin, the last Czar.

In England, it is considered uncool to support the monarchy. But there an awful lot of decent and responsible people who are uncool.

Why do the British still pay for the royal family to exist?

Some people like the idea of a royal family; acting as a living national symbol.(Me, not so much...)

Which royal family is the most popular?

Defenitly the British Royal Family. They've been around longer and we have our own history with them so they are the most popular by far. People here and know more about the Britsih Roayal Family than any of the other Royal Famililes of Europe and around the world. I myself didnt know about any other Royal Families until i did some research about it. Their are some other Royal Families around the world like the Spanish, Swedish, Norwegian, Dutch, and Danish Royal Families who are themselves famous in their own countries and around the world.

Why did george v adopted the name windsor as the surnamo of royal family?

In 1917, World War I was in full swing. Naturally, the British people did not like Germany. But, the German Royal family mixed quite frequently, so the British Royal family were a branch of the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. Many people did not like this as it represented a tie between the two battling countries. So, to show that the British Royals were seperate, King George broke off the Saxe-Gotha family and created his own new house: the House of Windsor. Windsor is a much more British-sounding name, so it made people in England happy.

What did king George v do to cut of the connection with Germany in 1914?

Well, he held many German Regal titles as his grandfather was German. Many members of the British Royal family held titles as well. Also, King George's first cousin was the Emperor of Germany. So, not in 1914, but in 1917, he abandoned the German titles he held, and so did the rest of the British Royal Family. He then cut the Royal house of Britain (then a branch of the German Saxe-Coburg and Gotha Royal house) off to become its own. He called it the House of Windsor.

What is the nationality of the windsor family?

They are British. Prince Philip comes from Greece. The myth that they're German comes from the fact that the great, great, great Grandfather of the current royal Princes was the German Prince Albert- prince consort to Queen Victoria. Queen Victoria's family had a mostly German origin, but she wasn't a German herself. The reality is though that most royal family's in Europe are and were related, so their country of origin was never that important. The current British royal family are as British as most British people today- many of whom had parents, grandparents or even great, great, great great grand parents who originated in other countries.

Who makes a royal family royal?

No one can make a royal family royal most of the time they are just living a good life because of what their ancestors have done and sometimes they really are hardworking and kind so people call them the royal family even if technically they are not royal. In the British Royal Family, their ancestors such as Queen Elizabeth I did such heroic deeds (throwing a king off their thrown or taking over a kingdom) that they become king their selves and their lazy descendants live off of that not working hard. It might seem a bit offensive but really it is true with most Royal Famillies, I'm not just pointing a finger at them because I am pretty fond of them myself.

Three reasons why the royal family should and three reasons why the royal family shouldn't have their privileged position taken away and become a normal family?

Three reasons why they should have their privileges taken away:The monarch no longer wields any real power, so should therefore no longer hold the privileges associated with that power. The royal family cost the taxpayer a substantial sum to maintain their lifestyle. The royal family is an outdated and no longer relevant tradition.Three reasons why they should retain their privileges:The royal family is an important part of Britain's culture and history. The royal family generates far more income from tourism than it costs in taxes. The monarch is a politically neutral representative of the British people.

What is older the Royal Navy or Royal Army?

The Royal Navy first came into operation in the early 16th century but the British (or Royal Army) was set up in 1707. So therefore the Royal Navy is the oldest. Hope this help you! Addendum: The UK does not have a Royal Army. The navy and the air force are Royal, but the army is just the British Army. We do have various regiments and corps that are Royal though.

Why are none of the British Royal Family fat?

Three things:There are overweight members of the royal family, they are just not "public figures". Remember there are several dozen if not hundreds of members of the direct royal family. The Royal family represent their people and culture so being over weight is just not done. They are "specifically bred" to be good looking including naturally healthy weight. As royalty you get to chose from the best available spouses and are encouraged to marry other aristocrats, again very good genetics.
