There is no reason that the indigenous peoples of the Americas should be considered uncivilized. They had a social ladder, war strategies, their own supernatural beliefs, and political relations with neighboring tribes. They studied astronomy and medicine, and they created beautiful works of art that some may consider to rival those made in Europe during the Renaissance. Due to their intense astronomical studies, some of the Native American peoples, such as the Mayans, created very accurate calendars. Some of these peoples even had their own forms of complex writing.
