Fifty.
There was no set pattern for stars on the US flag and the individual who proposed the flag, Francis Hopkinson, did not set them in a circle but in the pattern of the crosses on the flag of Great Britain. Thus they were scattered.
There are five rows of six stars each. Between each of those rows, are four rows of five stars each.
By how many states there are. If you want to know how many states there are, then count the stars on the flag. The stars on the flag are arranged by five rows of six stars. Between each of those rows are four rows of five stars.
they are straight.
they are arranged diagonally.
The 50 stars are organized in alternating rows of 6 and 5 stars in this pattern: 6-5-6-5-6-5-6-5-6 from the top down. Five rows of 6 stars alternated with 4 rows of 5 stars each.
there are 50 stars on the US flag
I believe you meant how many stars were on the first US flag. There is no such thing as the American flag. The first US flag was made up of 13 white stars which were arranged in a circle on a blue background. There was also 13 stripes that was alternating red and white.
There are 50 stars on the US flag
The current US flag was designed shortly after the American Revolution. The red and white stripes, of which there are 13, represent the original 13 colonies. The white stars on a blue background represent the states. The original design was a circle of stars but as states joined the Union this was modified to rows of stars. The current flag has, thus, 50 stars, one for each state.
The Union flag was the same United States flag that existed before the US Civil War began. Because the United States never recognized the Confederacy as a nation, the Union flag represented all of the states and territories of the US during the war.
There are 13 stripes and 50 stars on the US flag (Old Glory). The stripes represent the 13 original states and the stars represent the number of current states (which has often changed over 200 years). There are 7 red stripes and 6 white ones, so that there is a red one at the top and on the bottom. The first 4 red stripes run only partly across, from the blue field* containing the stars to the opposite edge. The 4th white stripe is the first to span the width of the flag, running below the blue field. This leaves 3 red and 2 white stripes running the full width below it.*The blue field containing that stars is 2/5 the total width of the flag and 7/13ths the height. It contains 5 rows of 6 stars and 4 rows of 5 stars.
See the link below for an image. It's rather nice looking; not strange at all.
