Why are there people who fall in love with the same gender and also their opposite gender?

well i am a lesbian 17 year old and for what i know of. falling in love is just that. it doesn't really matter if they are a boy or girl or even tranvestial. love is love and that's all you need to know. if a person makes your heart beat fast or makes you feel loved and special then that's really all you need to know. hope this helps!

∙ 14y agoI do not know the scientific reasoning, but almost everyone has feelings for someone special. in some cases, it just happens to be the same gender. it doesn't matter if its the same gender if its someone you have feelings for.
Suppose we approach this from another angle. Why would people of opposite gender fall in love? The answer would be, that this serves the evolutionary purpose of facilitating reproduction. Is there a possible evolutionary purpose for also having people of the same gender fall in love? The biologist Edward Wilson has speculated that there is. Bear in mind, in many species it is not normal for every member of the species to be involved with reproduction, and indeed, in social insects (bees, ants, termites etc.) the great majority of insects do not reproduce, yet they still serve a useful evolutionary purpose by supporting the community. We might speculate that since heterosexual human males are highly prone to fighting with each other as sexual competitors, it could be useful to human society to have at least some males who are inclined to like each other rather than to fight with each other. It could add an element of cohesiveness to society. However, that is just a speculation. It is also possible that it is a difficult trick for Biology to program human instincts so precisely that people will only fall in love with members of the opposite sex, and that a certain amount of error in this programming is going to happen unavoidably. After all, males and females have on the whole very similar body shapes - indeed, at least when clothed they can often be mistaken for each other. There is a very fine process involved in selecting potential partners.
