Corroded battery terminals, defective battery, or starter.Corroded battery terminals, defective battery, or starter.
# Disconnect negative battery cable # Raise and support the truck # Remove the protective cover from the starter motor solenoid terminals # Disconnect the wiring from the terminals on the starter motor solenoid # Remove the starter mounting bolts and detach the starter from the engine
There are two terminals on the starter, the main power terminal and the solenoid terminal. Sometimes the nuts on these terminals will vibrate loose over time and the wires from the two terminals will touch. This is what normally causes this condition.
That depends on the year of the bike. On '65 through '88 FLH models, there are three terminals on the solenoid. The top one goes to the battery, the [small] middle on goes to the starter button and the bottom one goes to the starter. On '89 and later FLH models there are only two terminals on the unitized starter/solenoid assembly. The larger one on top goes to the battery and the small one on the right side goes to the starter relay.
Disconnect the battery, take off the terminals on the starter, then remove the starter mounting bolts in the belt housing.
The battery is dead, the connection is bad, the terminals are corroded, the starter is bad, the solenoid is bad.
A DOL or direct on line starter works by connecting the motor terminals directly to the power supply when they are energized. A DOL starter is the simplest type of motor starter.

The starter or battery cables/terminals are corrode.
Because it has three terminals L , F and A L - Line (connected to Supply) F - Field (connected to field of dc motor) A - Armature (connected to armature of DC motor) that's y it is called 3 point starter :)
Three.
* Detach the negative battery cable * Clearly label then disconect the wires from the terminals on the starter motor and solenoid * Remove the mounting bolts and detach the starter
