the reason there is only three blades is because four blades would add weight and wind resistance, in some countries they use two or four bladed turbines though.

Why does wind turbines have long blades when short blades go faster?

Long Blades Catch More Wind Then Short Blades

Do onshore wind turbines rotate to catch the wind?

Yes, they move to catch the wind.

Whats the difference between windmills and wind turbines?

Windmills are much shorter than wind turbines, and usually have many blades. The blades catch more wind causing the windmill to be able to do more physical work. The propeller blades are connected to an axle with gears. The gears are connected to a vertical shaft that runs down the length of the tower and is connected to other mechanical equipment. Windmills do work such as pump water or grind grain, which is why they are a common site on farms where they are used in crop production. They are not built to produce electricity.HOPE THIS HELPED!!!!!!!

Do wind turbines catch fire?

Normally they shouldn't, however in scotland recently there were very strong winds and one of the turbines span so fast it did catch fire and the fan fell off.

How do windmills catch the wind?

The blades are shaped like air plane propellers and use the airs force to push on the shape of the blades.

Why does size matter with wind turbines?

If the turbines are much taller the ground bellow can still be used e.g. farming. The propellers can be bigger to catch more wind and make more energy.

How does a wind turbine take wind?

Wind turbines are designed to catch the wind and create electricity from the wind energy. The power station of a turbine moves the unit so the fan blades face the wind so the force of the wind can rotate the fan. The concaved blades collect the wind and send the force down their pedestal to produce energy with the help of a generator. The more wind that is collected, the more power produced.

Why are wind turbines not placed next to one another?

The wind farmers usually want to spread them out so the propellers do not collide. They also want to spread the turbines out so that they can catch the wind wherever it is.

What is the name of the item that catches the wind on windmills?

The blades of a wind power generator catch the windThe wings if an old fashioned wind mill catch the wind

Why sound will come for fan on rotating?

This relates to airflow in each of the fan blades. When the fan blades spin, the blades will catch the air and will start to vibrate as a constant process of being pulled back by the air and the blade's elasticity dragging it back to its previous position.

Wind energy renewable?

Wind is a renewable resource on earth. Wind turbines can be used to catch the wind's energy and be used to create electricity.

How many watts of wind power does it take to turn a large wind turbine?

Wind power isn't measured in watts. It takes a certain amount of wind to spin the blades. They can turn the angle of the wind turbine blades to help catch the wind. I beileve the wind has to be at least 30km an hour but i could be wrong. There are lots of places to look that up on the internet. Wikipedia has a fairly good article on wind power. If the wind is going too fast, the often shut down the turbines because they are built to withstand a certain pressure. If the wind is too high (which sometimes happens in Southern Alberta, Canada), they risk destroying the turbines. Watts are a measure of electrical power, not wind power.
