Is a hurricane a tsunami?

No. Hurricanes produce large waves, but these are not tsunamis. Tsunamis are the result of the movement of the ground underwater, such as with and earthquake, landslide, or volcanic eruption and have completely different dynamics from storm driven waves.

Can hurricane winds cause a tsunami?

No, tsunamis are not related to weather at all. Tsunamis are usually caused by the deformation of the seabed, such as from an earthquake, landslide, or volcanic eruption. Tsunamis are structurally different from wind-driven waves.

How are tsunami and storm surge very different?

A tsunami is a wave or series of waves caused by an earthquake in the ocean that come in as rapid surges. A storm surge is caused by a hurricane, typhoon or cyclone. They are wind driven and generally come in more slowly and are easier to predict.

Does the wind blow the water to make a tsunami?

No. Wind is what causes normal waves, but it has absolutely nothing to do withs tsunamis. Tsunamis typically result from undersea earthquakes.

Why are waves differant sizes?

waves are different because of the form of the wind

Are tsunami waves electromagnetic?

No, they are mechanical waves.

How can tsunami made flood?

tsunami's are huge waves:)

Are there different types of tsunami waves?

Tsunamis that are triggered by volcanic eruptions

Why water make waves?

Waves are created when wind moves across the surface of water. The size, speed and direction of the wave when it reaches the shore is determined by the speed of the wind, the amount of time the wind is blowing in the same direction, and distance over which the wind blows in a constant direction. Tsunami's are waves created by earthquakes. Boats can make waves too. You can make ripple waves in a puddle or lake by throwing a rock into the water. Tides are not the same as waves but can effect waves. Tides are created by the gravitational pull of the moon and sun.

Can a hurricane form a tsunami?

No. Hurricanes generate large waves, but tsunamis are a completely different matter.

What is the source of energy for these waves?

1 The moon's gravitational pull on the water 2 The wind hitting the water 3 An underwater earthquake (Tsunami)

Why is a tsunami like this?

a tsunami is like a giant group of waves
