There could be several reasons that your cactus plant tissue is becoming soft, but a common cause is exposure to freezing temperature which, which when ice forms in the cells, causes the the cell walls to rupture, thus when thawed causing the tissue be unable to maintain the pressure which makes the cell rigid.
