I am not a mechanic, however as an electrician it sounds like the running board lights are wired to the same relay as the interior lights. To check this, simply crank the truck, leave all the exterior lights off, turn on the interior light, then walk around the truck and look at the running board lights. If they are on then turn the interior light off and the parking lights on, check to see if the running board lights come back on. Depending on the make and model of the truck, I could be way off in left field and this info may not apply. uuummmm.....programing?
why is my dash board lights not working
check the fuse and the park lamp relay
There are several things that can cause your 2000 Cadillac dashboard lights to quit working. The most common cause is a blown fuse.
The TL CTSY 20 amp fuse on a 1989 S10 Blazer controls the interior courtesy lights. This fuse is responsible for providing power to the lights that illuminate the interior of the vehicle when the doors are opened or the interior light switch is activated. If this fuse blows, the interior courtesy lights will not function, potentially leading to reduced visibility and convenience within the vehicle.

Is there a penny stuck in the lighter port?
The fuse for the running board lights on a 2003 Toyota Sequoia is located in the interior fuse box, which is usually found under the dashboard on the driver's side. Specifically, you should look for the fuse labeled "DOME" or "ILLUMINATION," as these often control the running board lights. Always refer to the owner's manual for the exact fuse location and specifications.
If this is an electronic unit, the heat generated after the lights are on for one half hour, is affecting the intergrity of the electronic circuit board.
