Bacteria pretty much live everywhere. There are more bacteria in and on our bodies than cells in them. They are on our skin and in our digestive tracts. Ridding a body completely of them is impossible on a living individual; it cannot be done. If we look across the globe, we find their varieties and numbers are staggering. A sample of water from the deep oceans will reveal the presence of some bacteria there. Certainly bacteria can be found everywhere we live, work and play. There are bacteria on the highest mountains, and aircraft taking air samples above altitudes in excess of 50,000 feet can find it there, too. Different types can be found in different places as you'd expect, but this life form is omnipresent on earth. Should something catastrophic befall our planet, they will survive when all higher life forms are gone. Need a link? You got it. Look below.

All bacteria exist in colonies. A single cell multiplies every say 20 minutes and grows to form a colony. A colony is actually a clone of a single parent cell.

What is a bacteria colony?

a bacteria colony is the same as a colony that is found in bacteria and fungus begins to form once you've seen a colony.

If bacteria are not found as single cells how do they occur?

becase of the nature of their growht enabled them to be found in colony form

If bacteria in a colony are unable to perform conjugation how would this hurt the colony's chance for survival?

The colony would have less genetic variation. The Bacteria in the colony would be too genetically similar

What is a mass of bacteria that forms?

A mass of bacteria is a colony.

The bacteria in colony are unable to perform transduction. how would this hurt the bacterial colony's chance for survival?

The bacteria would generally be more similar

What is a colony in microbiology?

A colony is a group of identical bacteria (clones) which grow together into a visible cluster. Generally, a colony is grown on an nutrient agar plate (on a petri dish with bacteria food in it) such that it is large enough to see the bacteria. An additional type of colony is a "microcolony" which is a term used for a group of the same bacteria which grown in the dirt.

What is bacterial colony?

A group or cluster of bacteria derived from one common bacteria.

What are groups of bacteria living together in a close knit group known as?

A close knit group of bacteria is known as a colony. All bacteria cells in a colony are genetically identical because they grew from a the same bacteria cell.

He bacteria in a colony are unable to perform transduction. How would this hurt the bacterial colony's chance for survival?

the bacteria would be more genetically similar.

Can colony morphology help to determine the identity of bacteria?

to know the amount of bacteria present

Are the bacteria from one colony geneticaly identical?

Not always. Sometimes, during protein synthesis, the DNA of bacteria makes a mistake and copies the wrong protein causing a defect. This can cause the bacteria in the same colony to be slightly different. Also, bacteria can evolve very quickly, so this can also cause the bacteria in one colony to be slightly different.

What does a 'colony' mean in science terms?

colony term is mainly used in biology... fungal colony, colony of bacteria etc.. basically a group name.
