Chances are it is NOT a faulty battery. Your alternator is likely the problem. There are 3 diodes inside the alt that stop the current from flowing backward when the engine is off. It is probably easier and cheaper to just replace the alternator if you are not electrically inclined.
I've told people this in the past and they told me; "that can't be true. The alt is only one year old. I had it changed last year." I tell them so what, that doesn't mean anything. Weather it's a year, one month or ten years doesn't stop it from being the alternator. How do you get the battery in and out of a 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix GXP V8. The fuse block is blocking the removal.
Bad alternator?Check output with a voltmeter - without engine running battery reading (fully charged) should be around 12.8 With engine running reading should be 13.8-14.2 if not probably a bad alternator

The 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix fuse box is located in the engine compartment. The fuse box will be on the back side of the battery box.
disconect battery while vehicle running, alternator will keep power to the vehicle and will not loose memory. Car wont even know you did it.
