Why battery dies in 2005 Pontiac grand prix new battery 1 week there is a draw of half an amp when car is not running 2 days battery dead as a doornail?

Chances are it is NOT a faulty battery. Your alternator is likely the problem. There are 3 diodes inside the alt that stop the current from flowing backward when the engine is off. It is probably easier and cheaper to just replace the alternator if you are not electrically inclined.
I've told people this in the past and they told me; "that can't be true. The alt is only one year old. I had it changed last year." I tell them so what, that doesn't mean anything. Weather it's a year, one month or ten years doesn't stop it from being the alternator.
