Saltwater Fish are evolved to deal with water constantly rushing out of their bodies. The salt in the surrounding water exerts what is called osmotic pressure on the fish. Thus saltwater fish have evolved to be constantly drinking water and excreting salts. When you put a saltwater fish into freshwater, it continues to drink heavily and excreet salt. Thus the fish quickly loses too much salt, and its body begins to react accordingly; nervous impulses are unable to travel, and the fish's CNS shuts down, causing it to die.
There are however many saltwater fish that are able to travel into freshwater, as they have adaptations to change their behavour and Biology radically. Pacific salmon are a perfect example of this, and they are called anadromous fish. Also many species have evolved to live in brackish waters, an intermediate between salt and fresh, and can usually tolerate larger differences salinity.
They're not made for saltwater because if you put one in saltwater, the salt gets stuck in their gills and eventually they swallow it and choke. So they would die.
fresh water fish r meant for fresh water and since sea water has salt in it... they can not live in it . PS. no animal on land can drink salt water straight out of the ocean
because fresh water contain less salt
i think killer whales cant live in fresh water because the need to eat and all of the big fish are in salt water
No , some fish live in slat and fresh water but the pet fish you have or want to hve need fresh water.
fresh water fish are fish that live in fresh water fresh water is what you would get out of the tap at home as aposed to salt water witch contains salt
I guess you mean freshwater when you write "clearwater". Ocean dwelling fish evolved to live in water containing high quantities of salt and have a skin and coating that is designed to protect them in that kind of water. In fresh water their natural protection will not work properly and osmosis will happen and the fish will die. There are species of fish that can and do live in both fresh and sea water.
Well it depends on the fish. If it is a fresh water fish then it lives in fresh water, salt water fish live in salt water.
no
no, piranhas cant be found in the ocea. piranhas are fresh water fish and can be found in ponds in Guyana and Venezuela. The ocean is salt water and piranhas cant survive there. So no piranhas cant be found in the ocean, so it is safe to swim there without worrying about piranha attacks.
Saltwater fish don't live in freshwater.
flounders live in salt water. flounders can't live in fresh water
A goldfish.
Some do- salmon spawn in fresh water but live mostly in the ocean. Most fish live in either one or the other, not both.
It depends on the type of fish. If it is a saltwater fish than it lives in salt water, but if it is a fresh water fish than it lives in freshwater.
