You should have no problem being a member, guests have none. If you continue to have the issue contact a member and have them look at the profile to see if there is a glitch and/or it is visible to them.

If you want to make new friends, just participate on the site. After a while, others will message you, or you will find people with similar interests. You can look at questions that interest you, find out who participated in answering them, then leave posts on their message board from their profile.
