The same reason you don't see country names. They're not actually on the planet. They've been measured by scientists to appear on globes and maps.

Where is the Prime Meridian located geographically?

See related link for more information. _________ The Prime Meridian is based on Greenwich, England, the longitude of which is 0 degees. The other meridians are calculated from the Prime Meridian. Knowing where you are in relation to the Prime Meridian is the basis of all nautical navigation which was the reason for its establishment.

Why is equator and prime meridian are called imaginary line?

They are both called that because you can't see them. They are something that people decided that they had to have them to explain time zones and the northern and southern hemispheres.

Which line of latitude divides the earth into two equal halves?

Technically, and there isn't an upper and lower half of the world, although maps seem to suggest that. However, there is a northern half and a southern half. These are separated by an imaginary line called the Equator.

What is the name of the imaginary line that is 0 0 longitude?

The Prime Meridian

Explain how you can determine if your location is east or west longitude?

You see whether your location is located to the east or west of the Prime Meridian. If it is located east of the Prime Meridian, then it is east longitude, and the same goes for west.

What very large city does the prime meridian pass near?

Near to The City of London, England. See the linked question.

The time at 45 degrees East is 12noon What is the time at the Prime Meridian?

Every 15 degrees of longitude represents one hour. So 45 degrees east of the Prime Meridian is ahead of UTC by 3 hours (45 divided by 15). So the absolute time at the Prime Meridian when it is 12:00 noon at 45o E, is 09:00 hrs. However, different countries set their time zones by reference to political and practical considerations, not just by their position in relationship to lines of longitude. Consequently in some situations, the local time in at the Prime Meridian will be different from that of other countries through which the Prime Meridian runs. For example, local (standard) time at the Prime Meridian in France and Spain and Algeria is UTC +1, whereas in the UK it is UTC +/- 0.Similarly, standard time at 45o E is generally UTC +3, but there are exceptions: Iran, for example. Longitude 45o E passes through Iran, but it is a large country, and for convenience, has adopted UTC +3.5 as its standard time zone (Iran Standard Time/IRST). So when it is 12 noon at 45o E in Iran, it is 08:30 hrs at the Prime Meridian in England but 09:30 hrs on the Prime Meridian in France. For more information about the Prime Meridian, see Related links below.

Are the lines longitude half the the size of the equator?

Yes. Almost exactly. The equator is a full circle around the Earth, but a meridian of longitude connects the north and south poles, so it's a semicircle. The only reason a meridian isn't exactly half the length of the equator is that the Earth's polar diameter is not exactly the same as its equatorial diameter. The Earth is slightly 'shorter' than it is 'wide', which is also occasionally true of some people you see walking around.

Where does the latitude and longitude lies together and as zero?

It's regrettable that you didn't proof-read your question, to see whether someone else could read it and understand what you were asking. We're going to give an answer, but we're not at all sure that it answers the same question you intended. Every point on earth has a latitude and longitude, and they're different at every point. Longitude is measured both east and west from the Prime Meridian, and latitude is measured both north and south from the equator. The Prime Meridian and the Equator are thus the 'zeros' in their respective dimensions. The point where they cross has the coordinates of zero latitude, zero longitude. That point is located in the Gulf of Guinea, off the coast of west Africa, about 380 miles south of Accra, Ghana. That's the answer to the question that we think you tried to ask.
