A secondary source sums up the major points of one or more primary sources. Primary sources usually include tedious methods and procedures sections that may be of little usefulness. For example, textbooks would be considered primary sources, while the actually scientific papers that the textbook is based on are the primary sources.

Secondary sources interpret the primary for you, so they generally contain less raw data and more bias. In addition, because you're getting the information second-hand, you are more likely to get something wrong, because you're relying on the assumption that you understand the secondary source and that the secondary source understood the first.
