After time compression towns and other places are like more in the future so the game doesn't allow you to enter them because those places exist in the past.

After you have acquired the canoe at Crescent Lake, sail up the coast until you find a port in the middle of nowhere. Disembark there and start canoeing up the river. The river is a bit of a maze but eventually you will come across the secluded Ice Cave. This is a difficult cave full of tough enemies and teleporters but somewhere inside is the Floater (Levistone, in some versions). Once you have acquired this item, travel south of Crescent Lake by foot and canoe until you reach a small desert. Using the Floater here will cause the airship to rise from its resting place beneath the desert sands, freeing you from having to fight endless random battles as you walk around the map.
It has one and only one save file. You save the game by talking to a man wearing a long coat and traveling with a fox. He appears in all of the towns and dungeons and is basically a living save point. He doesn't walk around and appears in predictable locations. (Before boss fights, near the inns, etc.) Sources: Playing the game.

Mining towns were different than Mormon towns mostly because mining towns were focused on getting rich and mining, and Mormon towns were focused on religion rather than money. Mining towns were more 'rough and tumble' or 'wild west' than Mormon towns, which were more peaceful and civilized and had a lot more women and children. However, in the west, some Mormon towns were also mining towns. Nevertheless, most Mormon towns were farming, ranching, or industrial communities.
