Because the sun is blocked out, so it is like night, but it is not totally dark. When the sun is out it is too bright to see the stars.
Darkness or a corona

A solar eclipse can only happen at the time of New Moon.A lunar eclipse can only happen at the time of Full Moon.
Exactly the opposite. An eclipse of the moon, whether partial, total, or any other kind, can only happen at FullMoon.
I guess you mean only during a total eclipse of the Sun. At that time we can see the chromosphere and the corona. The outermost layer is the corona.
Only if the eclipse passes over Iceland. During a total solar eclipse, only a small part of the world actually sees it as a total eclipse. The path in which some of the Sun is obscured is about 6400 km wide, but the path in which a total eclipse occurs is only about 250 km wide. (The Moon's shadow is 3474 km wide.)
A total lunar eclipse can occur during a full moon phase. During this phenomenon, the Earth is positioned directly between the Sun and the Moon, casting a shadow on the Moon and creating the eclipse.
If there is a total lunar eclipse, everybody sees it as total. If there is a total solar eclipse, only people in a small part of Earth see it as total - most will see it as a partial eclipse, or not at all.
