I believe mine is paranormal.
Mom used to broil a steak in our oven, when I was growing up.
It had a very distinct smell, and it was heavenly!
I've also had the sensation, of being in my bedroom, and it filled with the scent of dozens of fresh roses!!!
I sat here yesterday, and just enjoyed that smell, and enjoyed the memory of her 🤗
I lost her at 45, I was 19.
Hi their now to answer your question the reason you smell food cooking is because the burning in the pan makes the scent come from the food, this isn't a brilliant answer but i hope its helped :)
Most people don't smell food when no one is cooking. However, I found this a curious subject, so after extensive research I have found the answer. There is a rare condition that occurs in one of every 200 people called "nasalphrenia". This condition is like schizophrenia for your nose. It causes you to smell things that aren't there and often mistake one smell for another. Although rarely fatal, this condition can have a very negative impact on your life, so I encourage you to seek help immediately.
The human nose can smell food cooking, however, there are distance situations that impede its sense of smell. Also nasal colds can at times cause the sense of smell to be curtailed. Generally speaking, animals have a better sense of smell then humans. Dogs are a primary example of this.
The Olfactory nerve in the nose provides smell to enter into the nostrils but the nerve receptors receive smell and tell your brain what it is that your smelling.
Because the food molecules are carried through the ait to your nose.
Maybe the aroma of the food is very strong and it can also made by the flows of the air.
Much of modern day food is cooked with aromatic herbs and spices. This give out essential oils and other substances when heated and we can smell them.

Because during cooking foods support many chemical and physical changes; the released chemical compounds after heating has different odors. These odor particles travel through the air and allow people to smell the cooking food from various distances.
Cooking food releases molecules of its ingredients. These molecules make their way to the nose where they nestle into specialized receptors. The receptors then send impulses to the brain which we then perceive as smell
For me, it's not. How else will you know if the food is fresh; going bad; or appreciate the taste. Remember wine taster smell (or more or less sniff) wine first before drinking cause the aroma enhances the eventual taste.Although some people may be offended if u smell their food. So my rule is: smell only your food, or when it's in the pot cooking or in their absence....
