Why cannot the Islam and the Christian live in peace accepting the others' variance in belief like the Mormons and Christians?

Most Muslims and Christians do live together in peace. However, it only takes a small number of extremists to cause trouble, and it's trouble that gets reported on news programs etc rather than peace.
