Why cant my laptop find my scanner I have a HP printer faxs canner and am able to print and fax but cannot scan to computer?

In some cases scanners need specific software on them to be able to access the scanning part of the machine - the printer drivers usually load automatically but not the scanner drivers.
Try going into "Windows Fax and Scan" and attempt to scan with the software in that program
