Of course you can! :) They are gentle turtles is raised properly, and mine love to be taken from their tank and petted on the head (yeah, their head!) or rubbed on their shell. It's calming for them, and good bonding time. Sometimes they may snap at you, but I've been bitten before (when his mouth was directed at a cucumber slice but my finger got in the way) and it isn't painful, so don't be scared of a turtle biting you. But you must remember to ALWAYS scrub your hands after handling your red eared slider or anything it touches because they carry diseases and you must stay clean. If you just wash your hands after VERY well, then you can hold them whenever you like. :)
Not at all, it helps them get to know you more, but the proper way to hold them if there babies is to put your index finger and thumb in pinch positoin. Next you put your thumb under there plastron and your index ontop of there carapis and if there adults you kinda grab them like a hamburger lol hope that helped :)
You can hold a red ear slider for about 10 to 15 min.
Yes! Wild Red-Ear Sliders may not like it, but it wont do them any harm. Pet Red-Ear Sliders love it! As long as you are gentle and don't drop it a lot, its OK to pick up turtles.
Yes, keep your fingers away from the mouth, and wash your hands after.
However you want/they will let you. And gently, don't be too rough. You can also pet and hold them.
Most turtles slow down their breathing and hold their breath and they can hold their breath for longs periods of time.
No they do not breathe under water. They have lungs. Aquatic turtles such as the red - eared slider can hold their breath for 3 - 4 hours.
go to the search bar and type in what u want and then wait for it to load and then keep on scrolling down while reading.
yes, they can hold there breath for a long time
A 17-inch red-eared slider would probably hold the Guinness World Record for biggest red-eared slider turtle. A very large adult red-eared slider is a little over a foot long from the tip of the nose to the tip of the tail, with a shell around 8 to 9 inches long. A more average size (especially for males, which are generally smaller) is around 9 to 10 inches from nose to tail, with a 6 to 7 inch shell.
No, these turtles along with red ear sliders are the most common turtle you can get hold of. They are readily available in most reptile stores (well they seem to be the one they all sell). Other turtles such as map and musk turtles are much harder to get hold of, especially in the UK.
A turtle needs air to breathe. Some turtles can slow their metabolism, allowing them to sleep underwater, but it must come up to the surface of the water in order to breathe. It can hold it's breath and stay underwater awhile, but it must surface to breathe or it will drown. Turtles cannot breathe underwater because they do not have gills, like fish - they have lungs, much like human lungs. Some aquatic turtles such as the red-eared slider can hold their breath for 3-4 hours, which might make you think that they are breathing underwater, but they really are not.
They can sleep under water because they can hold their breath for a very long time.
There's no reason you can't hold a red-eared slider, as long as you are careful. Red-eared sliders can sometimes carry salmonella, so you should always wash your hands after touching them. They can also get sick from germs that humans carry, so you should also wash your hands before touching them, too. The other thing is that sometimes they bite, and it really hurts because once they've bitten you, they usually won't let go, so you have to pull your finger out. So be careful not to let your fingers get too close to its mouth.
She will hold them inside of her belly for up to two months after that you should take her to the vet they'll force her to squeeze out the eggs. If you is broke the mother will keep them inside until they crack and now you have a turtle with 20 broken eggs in her body!!!
no, that just silly!!!! No they do not breathe under water. They have lungs. Aquatic turtles such as the red - eared slider can hold their breath for 3 - 4 hours. If you are wondering because your turtle is blowing bubbles from behind it, it is because it is a sexually mature male turtle. A few species of turtles have cloacal bursae that are rich in blood vessels and can be used for gas exchange. The vast majority of turtle species do not either have these cloacal bursae, or if they do, they cannot use them for gas exchange. Please refer to the end of the article I am added to related links.
