did you take out spark plugs to make it easier. only turn clockwise direction or the natural direction the engine runs. Remember if you separate the crankshaft from the valve cam via timing belt , then turn the crank you will probably have the piston come up and hit the valves. So it is very important to keep the valve cams in time with the crank when doing the timing belt, you could damage or bend a valve.

Where are the timing marks or settings on a 1999 Ford Ranger?

It depends on what kind of engine you have On the 2.5L 4Cyl there are three of them. One is on the crank shaft pully (for TDC). It is a line, scribed on the pully, that alligns to a pointer on the plastic timing belt cover. The second is on the cam shaft pully. It can be accessed by removing the rubber inspection plug on the timing belt cover. The third is on the auxillary shaft (oil pump) and is also accessed through an inspection plug on the timing belt cover. On the cam and oil pump pullies, the diamond aligns to the diamond and the triangle aligns to the triangle (the pullies have both). These should be perfectly aligned when the crankshaft pully line is at 0 deg TDC. If you can't see the marks through the inspection port while the crank is at 0 TDC, you are 180 degrees out - turn the crank one more time.

How do you remove the crank pully to get access to the water pump on a 2000 intrepid?

You have to use a harmonic balancer puller to remove the pulley You can borrow one from a parts store with a deposit. Just finished replacing the water pump last week on our 1999 Intrepid. Depending on the mileage (if over or close to 100,000) do yourself a favor and replace the timing belt while you are at it. Good Luck

Replacing timing chain on a 96 intrepid?

Its a belt, not a chain. Water pump is belt driven, so replace that while your in there. Make sure that the crank and cams are on TDC before you put the belt on.

How do you replace the water pump on a 1988 Toyota Camry?

Not a quick job. Timing belt covers have to come off, which means most of the stuff on the right side of the engine, including the motor mount. the water pump is driven by the timing belt - brilliant design concept NOT. start with timing belt replacement instructions....might as well change the belt while you're there. it is under the timing cover. easy to replace pump hard as hell to get to it. remove tire remove inspection panel then remove all belts then remove crank pully then remove timing cover and there it is. replace timing belt while your at it.

Why can't you see the timing mark on the pulley when timing a Chevy 350 with a mallory HEI distributor while using a timing light?

perhaps crank pulley has slipped from original position

How do you replace the water pump on a 1995 Dodge Intrepid?

This is a JOB if you have the 3.5L. Prob the easiest way is to take out the fan for easier access and take off the belts and the crank pully and then the housing for the timing belt which should be replaced while you have that off anyways. After you have the timing belt off the water pump is right there held on with 3 bolts and it looks like a pully. The hardest part about this job is reinstalling the timing belt because if your not precise you would prob just be better off buying the water pump and timing belt and going to an independent shop and having them do it.. Good Luck I know I will need luck with mine.

How do you set the timing on your 85 rx7?

With a timing light of course. Your crank pully should have 2 marks on it, the first mark is for the leading plugs and is 5 degrees AFTER top dead center (atdc) and the second mark is for trailing and is 20 degrees AFTER top dead center (atdc). Your 85 should have vacuum advance on your distributer, be sure to unplug the vacuum line and cap it off while stetting your timing. Trust me when I say, use only your timing marks, playing with your timing on rotaries causes all sorts of problems

Replacing timing chain and need firing order for 1997 Dodge Intrepid 3.5?

123456 That should have been marked on the intake manifold, towards the rear of the engine. The firing order is correct! However, it has a timing belt, not a chain. The water pump is driven by the timing belt, so replace that while your in there. And Make sure the crank and cams on on TDC before you put the belt on!

How do you set the timing mark btdc on a 1993 Toyota Camry le 2.2 4-cylinder?

Remove the number one spark plug and take a screw driver and put it in the hole. have someone "bump" the starter (barely try to crank) until you feel the screw driver come up to the top of that cyl. or look on your main pully (which is the crank pully) it has marks on it again have someone bump the starter on the car to barely turn the motor, until the line is at the top according to the tab that sticks out on the top.. again it depends on how many degrees it is to the left or right of TDC line the mark up with the little arrow on the main crank .. you may also get a "timing light" which attaches to the number one spark plug wire and turn the distributor slowly while aiming it at the marks on the main crank pulley...with the car running Hope this helps ..

Do the timing belt have to be replaced when replacing the water pump on 2000 durango v8 5.9l?

A Dodge Durango does not have a timing belt. It has timing chain. If the timing cover chain gasket is leaking it is normal to change it while changing the water pump.
