World War 1 became a world war when the Allies and the Central powers started to invaded colonies in the world especially in Africa

America was not against any colonies during ww1 or ww2 but it was war in the colonies like the Arabic colonies and the North African Colonies

World War 1 never had colonies, nor has any other war before or after it. It did however cost the nations who fought in it numerous colonies, most notably Germany, who lost large possessions in Africa and Asia.
