If you connect the negative first you have made a connection from the battery to the whole body of the vehicle. When you then connect the positive using a spanner (wrench) and whilst(while) touching the positive terminal connect with the body of the vehicle with the other end you will cause a short circuit. A fully charged 12 volt car battery is capable of heating a spanner(wrench) to cherry red if it doesnt burn it away first. You don't want to be holding it at the time; plus the risk of fire, melting battery case due to internal heat, then acid spillage combined with the EXPLOSIVE GASSES which would usually have gone bang by now, a gas that doesn't go puff IT GOES BANG. sulphuric acid isn't very friendly. I could go on but it would make me sound like an anorak from here on. Hope this helps. paddycanman
connect positive first then negative that is the safe way to do it
Remove the negative cable first and when installing the new battery connect the negative last.
Disconnect negative cable first from old battery and connect it last when installing new battery.
Disconnect the negative cable first and connect the same negative terminal last when installing the new battery.
The negative battery lead cable is to be connected to the negative lead terminal on the battery.
There are typically two cables, one is usually red and the other black. The black cable attaches to the negative terminal on the battery and the red wire connects to the positive terminal on the battery. When removing the battery from the vehicle always remove the negative cable from the battery first. When installing the new battery always connect the negative cable to the battery last.
Connect the Positive + battery cable to the positive + battery post first. Then connect the Negative - cable to the negative - battery post.
The man said it Always connect the positive + cable first to the battery. Then connect the negative- cable to the engine somewhere. Never connect the negative cable to the battery itself. Batteries vent hydrogen gas and which can ignite with the slightest spark. For this reason never, ever, connect the negative first and never connect the negative to the battery.
red or positive
Connect the positive + red charger cable to the positive + red battery post. Then connect the negative - black charger cable to the engine somewhere. Most engines have something metal sticking up that you can connect to. Do not connect the negative charge cable to the negative battery post, always connect it to the engine.
connect the positive first, the negative. the negative cable doesnt spark as much
Connect the negative cable first.
