The reason why Schnauzers tails are docked is because judges at dog competitions find this more attractive. If you are planning on entering your schnauzer in a competition then you will find that most of the Schnauzers tails are docked.

Many many years ago farmers used to dock their working dogs tails so that horses wouldn't step on their tails or so that the farmer doesnt run over it...... but no people dock tails because they think it makes their rottweiler look "tuff" but it is cruel it causes the dog to be in alot of pain. Plus they don't look any less "tuff".

This is a hold-over policy from a medieval Europe tax policy. Several centuries ago, non-working dogs were taxed by the government but working dogs were exempted. The working dogs included those dogs that were used to do meaningful work, such as herding or guarding a flock of sheep. Rottweilers were a working breed, intended to guard the livestock from wild predators and human thieves. To show the Rottweiler was a working dog, the tail was docked and the owner did not have to pay the dog tax.

Because this happened for several centuries, docking the tail of a Rottweiler became part of the breed standard and you had to dock the tail to register or compete with your Rottweiler. However, since this is not medically needed for the dog, it is being re-evaluated and some shows are allowing non-docked Rottweilers to compete.

Docking the tail of working dogs was a tax policy in medieval Europe, particularly England. Non-working dogs were taxed by the government, but working dogs (such as herding or guarding dogs for flocks of sheep) were exempt from the tax. To show the animal was a working dog, the tail was docked (cut short). Rottweilers were originally bred as guard dogs, to protect the livestock herds from wild predators and human thieves, so they were often docked.

This has been done for several centuries, and docking the tails of Rottweilers has become incorporated into the breed standard. However, there has been a movement towards revisiting this policy and in England docking tails for non-medical reasons is now frowned upon in several breeds.

Are rottweiler puppy's supposed to have tails clipped?

No, theyre are not born without tails. It has been a tradition to cut off a rottweiler's tail from a young age. This was done because they had a powerful tail and would hit it againt things and hurt themselves. However, the law has now changed so that it is illegal to cut off a rottweiler's tail.

Are all dogs tails long?

No. Some dog's tails are docked (cut) when they are born or at another age. This involves a vet or breeder chopping off the dog's tail. If the tail was cut to a stub on a Rottweiler, your question would be false.

Do you have to cut the ears or tail?

I don't think it is absolutely necessary Our Schnauzer does not have her ears cut, but she does have her tail cut, so I don't know about that! If you want to show your Schnauzer then you do have to cut the ears and tail.

Should you have your 4 month old rottweiler and pitbull mix dog tail cut?

I personally do not think you should. It is painful for the dog. If you do have it done, ONLY have it done by a Veterinarian, do not attempt it yourself or have anyone else do it. I like dogs to look like they were intended to look like. The tail is a necessary balancer for dogs also.

What does it cost to dock a Rottweiler's tail?

well first you want to cut a circle around the base of the tail. then you want to cut where you can get a grip on the base of the tail by doing that cut bak on the tail. After that you pull the tail leaving the flesh behind. After you get that turn the tail as the way you would see as it is on the coyote then fill up with salt and leave to dry.
