Abraham laughed in happiness after God's promise that he and Sarah would soon have a son (Genesis 17).
to laugh at his self
Laugh - i Laugh laugh Laugh - i Laugh laugh
Abraham laughed, not because he thought he was too old to sire a son for he had already fathered Ishmael (many middle eastern people are direct descendants of Ishmael), but because God had told him He would give Abraham a son by his wife Sarah who was 90 years old. Abraham asked God to bless Ishmael as Abraham did not believe it possible for Sarah to conceive at her age. Read the whole account in Genesis 17.
My son's middle name is Isaac. I did alot of research during my pregnancy as most women do and found an interesting story....In the Hebrew Bible, "Isaac" means "he will laugh". For those of you who are not familiar with who Isaac was in the old testement, let me tell you a story..... Abraham and Sarah were Very old and had no children. The bible says that Abraham was 100 years old. God told Abraham that he and Sarah would have a son and to name him Isaac. Abraham's response??? He laughed at God. Not in a mocking way, but disbelieving. It showed me that even though my son was a suprise, he had such a stong purpose. My repsonse when I found out that I was pregnant??? I laughed...I knew God was in control and I knew he had a reason for giving me this wonderful miracle that now tracks mud all over my floors :)...Good luck Mommy's and daddys!!!!
The name Isaac comes from the word in Hebrew which means "Laughing One", "laughter" or "to laugh".
