Abraham laughed, not because he thought he was too old to sire a son for he had already fathered Ishmael (many middle eastern people are direct descendants of Ishmael), but because God had told him He would give Abraham a son by his wife Sarah who was 90 years old. They named the child Isaac (Heb: Yitshaq), which actually means 'He laughs' or 'He will laugh', a reference to Abraham's reaction when told that he would have a son.
